Thirty some odd years ago, the electric bass was relegated to life in the background. When Stanley Clarke hit the scene, the possibilities for the electric bass was forever changed. No longer satisfied with simply bridging the rythmn and melody, and free from the muffled tone of its predecessors, the electric bass could realize its dreams, play leads and solos, and get the people listening to feel the music in their bodies and excite the senses.
We created the Signature series from the same templates, with the same scale length and the same body woods as Stan's personal Series I and II basses. The Stanley Clarke Signature Deluxe comes standard with Coco Bolo top and back laminates. Even though the electronics are more simple than our top of the line Series II model, one item that Stanley insisted on for his Signature bass was separate filters and Q-switches for each pickup. The ability to tailor the tone of each pickup individually opens up a wide spectrum of available tones. A small rotation of our filter controls can make your Signature Deluxe sound like an entirely different bass.
Many are surprised to learn that the Stanley Clarke Signature Deluxe bass features a short scale length. Despite the fact that Stan is a tall man with large hands, the short scale means the strings are more flexible. The frets are naturally closer together compared to a long scale, which makes the bass incredibly comfortable - and fast - to play. It just feels "right." Fly even faster with the narrow taper fingerboard, new for 2008.
